We are thrilled to share the resounding success of our recent United Way Day of Caring projects, which showcased the power of community collaboration and the strength of our staff at the library.
Thanks to the collective efforts of our library system’s collections, staff donations, and a generous paper donation from Office Depot, we successfully stocked the office supply closet at CARE House of the Pee Dee with every item on their wish list. They were asking for reams of white copy paper, rolls of stamps, yellow and white legal pads, manila fastener folders, pens, and pocket folders. A special thank you goes to our Training Librarian Mikaela for organizing the office supply drive, and Leonard, who kindly delivered the donations. This project helped ensure that the CARE House is well-equipped to continue its vital work supporting children and families in our community.
In addition to the supply drive, our staff volunteers—Danielle, Rose, Leah, and Mikaela—rolled up their sleeves to tackle a cleanup project at an emergency shelter for the Pee Dee Coalition. The task of clearing out the shelter’s basement was a dirty job, but with so many helping hands, the work went quickly and efficiently. It was an inspiring morning spent together, sweating for a great cause and supporting an organization that provides safety and hope for those in need. It means so much when our staff steps outside of the library with enthusiasm and dedication to making a difference in our community.

Adding to the excitement, Florence County’s United Way campaign as a whole raised a remarkable amount of money! This year, the county raised nearly $23,000, a significant leap from last year’s total of $7,500 and a dramatic increase from just $1,000 three years ago. This incredible growth reflects the generosity and commitment of everyone involved, from donors to volunteers. Our library employees helped by buying raffle tickets and participating in the Carolina vs. Clemson challenge. We are so proud of the county we work and operate in! Thank you to all who participated in these efforts, helping to strengthen our community and support the impactful work of organizations like the CARE House and the Pee Dee Coalition. Together, we’re making Florence County a better place for all!
