Job Training and Placement Through Project H.O.P.E.
Project H.O.P.E. is back at the Lake City Public Library. Through the month of December, the library will be teaming up again with the United Way of Florence County to provide job training services and job placement assistance. Project H.O.P.E. representatives will be available at the library on Mondays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Project H.O.P.E. (Helping Our People gain Employment) serves the unemployed and underemployed of Florence County by matching skills with employer needs. Project H.O.P.E. supports the local workforce through resume and interview preparation, skills training, job searches, application assistance, referrals and prevocational services. This long-term, community-wide project is funded by a grant from Johnson Controls.
For more information about Project H.O.P.E., contact Project H.O.P.E. Director Les Echols of the United Way of Florence County by phone at 843-662-2407, or by email at lechols@uwflorence.org.
Partnership with The Benefit Bank of S.C.
Local organizations are joining a national movement to get needed benefits and work supports in the hands of the underserved populations. The Benefit Bank of South Carolina (TBB-SC) is partnering with the library, Mayor’s Office, hospital, school district, senior citizens center and housing authority to bring “one-stop shops” to Lake City.
TBB-SC is working with agencies behind the scenes to make sure the process is seamless and efficient for the client. TBB-SC is funded by BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Foundation and the Duke Endowment. Darla Moore invested in the organization to ensure that the program was fully developed in Lake City. With her help, the library has a part-time person dedicated to helping Lake City citizens prepare applications. For appointments, the community should contact the Lake City library at 843.394.8071. In the future, clients will be able to get assistance at partnering sites as well.
