The Doctors Bruce and Lee Foundation Library will host Still Life Drawing for Beginners (ages 18 and up) on Tuesday, October 16 at 6:30 p.m. Presented by Professor Steven Gately of Francis Marion University, this free workshop will cover the basic principles of drawing: line, shape, proportion, light and shadow.
Professor Gately stated, “Drawing is the simplest and most direct form of art, and the basis for all other forms, such as painting and sculpture. Only basic materials are required and anyone can learn to draw who really wants to.”
Gately has been a member of the FMU faculty since 1973, and is Coordinator of the Visual Arts Program. He teaches painting, drawing and design in FMU’s Fine Arts Department. He was appointed to the C.B. and Marlene Askins Endowed Chair in Art in 2006. His art has been featured in numerous private and public collections in ten states, including Alabama, North Carolina and South Carolina.
Admission is free, but space is limited and registration is required. All materials will be supplied. Call the Reference Desk at 843-413-7074 to register, or visit www.florencelibrary.org for more information.
