You’re Invited to the Artist Reception and Exhibit Opening, “Vignettes Behind Stained Glass Windows” by Harry McFadden

The Doctor N. Lee Morris Gallery will be displaying “Vignettes Behind Stained Glass Windows” by Harry McFadden in Spring of 2025. There will be an artist reception and exhibit opening on Thursday, February 6, 2025 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m that is free to attend and open to the public. The exhibit will remain open for viewing during normal library hours through Friday, May 16, 2025.

In his artist statement, McFadden emphasizes the importance of cultural heritage and personal identity in his work. He draws inspiration from his own background, incorporating elements that celebrate his roots while also addressing universal themes such as love, struggle, and resilience. By doing so, he creates a dialogue that transcends borders, inviting people from all walks of life to engage in his art. McFadden’s goal is to inspire others to embrace their individuality and use creativity as a means of expression, fostering a deeper understanding of both self and community.

Harry Arnette McFadden grew up in a rural area affectionately known as White Oak in Williamsburg County. He is a talented artist known for his unique ability to blend traditional techniques with contemporary themes. His work often reflects his experiences and observations of the world around him, capturing the essence of life in vibrant colors and intricate designs. His past shows include an exhibit at James Brown’s Visual Soul Festival in Augusta, GA, “Soulscapes” at Francis Marion University, “Celebration” at Black Creeks Arts Council, the Pee Dee Boys and Girls Club as an artist in residence, and most recently, a solo show entitled “The Audacity of Pluto.” He is an inaugural artist at the Acline Studios in Lake City, South Carolina.

Visitation to the Dr. N. Lee Morris Art Gallery on the second floor of Florence County Library is free and open to the public during normal operating hours.
